News from SCA December 2016
SCA Year-End Letter

Dear Friends,

What a year 2016 has been! I’m writing this on the heels of a very surprising and, in many ways, tumultuous election. Whether or not you’re happy with the result, it is certainly a powerful reminder of how unforeseen life can be and how dependent on the Lord we all are.

We have witnessed another great year of ministry at SCA. Some excerpts from actual notes we have received from clients include:

"The counsel we are doing is helping to provoke issues that need to change.”
"I want to express my great appreciation for the counseling session – it was a blessing and help to me. The anxiety pool has definitely been drained a lot. May God bless you for your ministry to my life."
"The Lord has used you to bring healing deliverance and increased freedom in my life – your ministry bears much fruit."
"The Lord has given you as a gift to me during this season. Thank you for sowing into me."

We are blessed and privileged to come alongside people who are hurting and caring for them as skilled counselors who love the Lord!

SCA is celebrating 30 years of ministry this year. We praise God for His faithfulness through all those years.

We currently have 23 counselors who have had over 11,000 sessions. In the past year we also provided extensive pro bono and reduced-rate ministry in our community.

MCS also had a strong year ministering to missionaries, sending agencies, and churches around the world. Our staff took several international ministry trips to serve the missionary community overseas. In addition, we saw hundreds of missionaries through our Littleton office and even remotely around the world.

We are acutely aware that none of this could happen without the work of the Lord! Please pray that we would be wise in 2017 to respond to all the challenges we are facing in this country related to health care and mental illness. Please pray that every session we have with each client will be a divine appointment!

Would you consider a year-end gift to the ministries of SCA? These gifts are an essential part of helping us do our work in peoples’ lives. You can make a check out to SCA or give online via our website, www.southwestcounseling.org. We can also run a credit card donation if that is more convenient for you

Thank you for your prayers and support of the great work and staff of SCA. Please check us out on our website and on Facebook.

May God bless you as you celebrate Christmas and the New Year’s season!

Looking Back on 30 Years

Thirty years! There's much to memember from such a long journey, and much for which to give thanks. For example, here are some quick facts about SCA's ministry and God's faithfulness to us over the years:

In September 1986, our first month in operation, SCA therapists saw clients for a total of five hours.

From September 1986 to October 2016, SCA therapists have done a total of 348,450 billed sessions

Using a realistic estimated average of eight sessions per client, SCA has helped a total of 43,556 people.

From 1986 to 2016, SCA has generated $28,923,922 of revenue.

Consistent with biblical teaching on tithes and offerings, and with our IRS non-profit mission, our staff of 22 therapists and six administrative staff give to our community around $200,000 annually in free and discounted services.

Our current annual budget exceeds $1 million.

SCA owns the building at 141 West Davies Avenue North, which was improved in 1994 and dedicated in January 1995.

Missionary Care Services, International (MCS) was established and saw its first missionary clients in December 1990.

To date, the MCS staff have counseled a total of 1090 client units (each "unit" consisting of a single person, a couple or a family).

Based on an average of two people per “unit,” MCS staff have counseled a total of 2,180 missionaries.

MCS staff have counseled missionaries working in hundreds of countries and all but one continent (not Antarctica!).

MCS staff also provide additional services to churches, sending agencies and other entities. Services include training, consulting and supporting the work of missions committees.

Our staff travels internationally to minister to workers “on the field.” Countries where our staff has traveled to minister to missionaries include:

  • China
  • Costa Rica
  • Guatemala
  • India
  • Israel
  • Kyrgyzstan
  • Mexico
  • Panama
  • Philippines
  • Tajikistan
  • Tanzania
  • Thailand
  • Turkey

We thank God for all He's done over the last 30 years, and we look forward to what he will do in 2017. In fact, should we wait so long for Christ's return, we anticipate another blessed 30 years!
