We are now SouthWest Counseling (SWC), an informal affiliation of former Southwest Counseling Associates staff members, now in private practice. As the result of an executive board decision, Southwest Counseling Associates (SCA) dissolved on November 30, 2021. To preserve the mission, standards and culture of SCA, therapists listed on this site continue to work together in supporting each other and serving our community. DETAILS

Dr Dan Rumberger

PsyD, Licensed Psychologist

I’ve been a licensed Psychologist for over 40 years, which makes me well-seasoned 😊 in the work I love. I entered this profession simply because God called me to it many years ago, when I was a freshman at Houghton College. I plowed through a couple masters programs enroute to a Doctor of Psychology degree at Biola University’s Rosemead School of Psychology. But, truth be told, it was after jumping through all those educational hoops that my real training began. It has been those many years of sitting with real people – thousands of amazing clients – that have shaped how I do my work, along with the countless “school of life“ experiences/challenges that God has used to grow me into being a little more mature than I used to be. FYI, I’ve been married for over 50 years and have two “kids“ and four grandkids.

I believe that effective psychotherapy is a process that fosters healing of the heart and maturity of the mind in the way that God designed – through life-giving relationships. Finding wisdom in the combining of spiritual insights with brain science, I offer counseling to adults and couples experiencing such common struggles as depression and anxiety, acute relationship issues, life crises, and personal adjustment problems. Compassionate therapeutic presence is especially crucial for helping survivors of physical, emotional, sexual and spiritual abuse, including those with dissociative disorders, and I understand that such courageous people often face very real spiritual battles that can make life profoundly lonely and difficult.

Finally, I want to add that I have a special place in my heart for pastors and others carrying the personal burdens, challenges and wounds of full-time ministry. It is a privilege to provide them with a safe place to find healing, and the encouragement to grow deeper levels of maturity.
