Randy Smith

MA, Licensed Professional Counselor

Welcome, and thanks for taking a moment to look at my profile.

As a diligent counselor who has demonstrated competency in treating domestic violence, anger management, low impulse control, conflict resolution, and emotional regulation, I offer practical, straightforward tools and techniques that can be readily applied. Knowledgeable of developmental trauma, addictive processes, and chaotic cycles, with warmth and understanding I partner with individuals and couples to achieve more effective living.
With more than 30 years of experience in the field of behavioral counseling, I have developed useful skills, resources, and capacities for providing help in the following areas:

  • I have a rich understanding of developmental context and how trauma experienced in various stages of development may affect present perspective and experience
  • I welcome the opportunity of working with individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, or Bipolar Disorder and I partner well with psychiatrists as needs arise
  • I have extensive experience in assisting both young men and their parents in working through the developmental challenges of late adolescence/trial independence (ages 18-23)
  • I am generally culturally competent, having treated clients from 46 different countries
  • I have a solid grasp of male issues, having treated men from all walks of life (from professional athletes to unfortunates living on the streets)

My approaches to treatment align with Reality Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Rational-Emotive Therapy, and Acceptance Commitment Therapy, but factors that central to effective counseling involve timing (Is the client ready?) and the strength of the therapeutic partnership.

If you think the timing is right for you, give me a call. We can set up a FREE 20-minute “kickin’-the tires” session where we look each other over and see if we think we are a good fit for doing some important work together. And, if we’re not, I’ll try to help you find someone who might be better for you. In either case, I am here to offer help.
