, Choosing a Therapist, Southwest Counseling

We are now SouthWest Counseling (SWC), an informal affiliation of former Southwest Counseling Associates staff members, now in private practice. As the result of an executive board decision, Southwest Counseling Associates (SCA) dissolved on November 30, 2021. To preserve the mission, standards and culture of SCA, therapists listed on this site continue to work together in supporting each other and serving our community. DETAILS

Finding the Best One

Choosing a therapist is both a personal and practical process involving such considerations as the client’s needs and preferences, the therapist’s training and availability, and insurance coverage. We’ll help pair you with the therapist who best fits your situation, your style and your goals.

Call Our Intake Coordinator

Whether you have a preference for a particular therapist, it is best to contact our intake coordinator, Larry Zirschky, before attempting to set an appointment. Larry can tell you which therapists have openings for new clients, which can receive payment from your insurance, and which have specialties that meet your needs. In many cases, he can offer choices that you would not have considered.

Call Larry at (303) 730-1717 ext 255, or email him from our Email SCA page. Larry maintains current information on all our therapists, including their licenses, specialties, availability and insurance providers that will cover their services.

Larry will return your message, usually within two business days, and suggest one or more therapists for you to call. It will then be up to you to call that therapist and decide where to go from there. You can use the following resources to help you make a confident choice to see a particular therapist.

Read Our Therapist Pages

Each clinical staff member has a page that describes his/her training, experience and areas of expertise. Often the information on these pages will tell you what you need to know to choose the best therapist, or at least to narrow the field for further investigation.

Talk to a Therapist

Our therapists are happy to talk with you to give you a better sense of who they are and how they are likely to affect you. The therapist may also be willing to meet with you briefly for a face-to-face introduction.

Call your therapist using the contact information on his/her staff page, and leave a voice message. To avoid interrupting therapy sessions, calls to therapists go directly to voice mail. You will receive a return call in about one to two business days.

Check for Referrals

SCA maintains an extensive network of contacts throughout the Front Range. If you are still not sure which of our therapists is best for you, it is quite possible that your minister, doctor or other professional care giver can make a suggestion. Remember to check with family members, friends and acquaintances who have had experience with SCA.

All our therapists set their own schedules and manage their own clientele. Please note that you are not a client until your therapist sets an appointment for your first visit. AFTER the appointment is set and before the first session, please remember to fill out our intake documents.
