We are now SouthWest Counseling (SWC), an informal affiliation of former Southwest Counseling Associates staff members, now in private practice. As the result of an executive board decision, Southwest Counseling Associates (SCA) dissolved on November 30, 2021. To preserve the mission, standards and culture of SCA, therapists listed on this site continue to work together in supporting each other and serving our community. DETAILS

Get help in a crisis
SCA is now encouraging clients experiencing crises to contact Colorado Crisis Services (CCS), which is replacing our in-house emergency pager. We’re making the change because CCS has more specialized services and quicker response time than SCA can offer.
CCS specialists have training and experience dealing with a full range of problems requiring immediate attention, such as thoughts of suicide, panic attacks, relational conflict, domestic violence and drug/alcohol problems.
CCS is available for immediate response 24/7 by phone, text, or in-person visit to any of six walk-in clinics. Please put the following information in your phone for quick reference:
- Contact: Colorado Crisis Line
- Phone: (844) 493-8255
- Text: “TALK” to 38255
- Six walk-in clinics throughout the Front Range

Contact Your Chosen Therapist
You may contact the therapist directly if you have already chosen one. Click the “Staff List” button below to go to our staff page, then click on the name of the therapist you wish to see. This will take you to the therapist’s profile page, where you will find the phone contact information at the bottom.
NOTE: The therapist you call may not be taking new clients, and may not be covered by your insurance. If for any reason you cannot arrange to see one therapist, we encourage you to call Larry Zirschky at x255 for referral to another staff member.
Call Your Current Therapist
Your most effective way to reach your therapist is to leave a message in his or her private, confidential voice mail. Messages left for therapists in the general SCA mail box take longer to reach the intended person. To find your therapist’s phone contact information, click on the “Staff List” button below, then click the name of your therapist. You will find your therapist’s phone contact information at the bottom of the profile page that appears.
What Is It with Labels?
Counselors are infamous for encouraging people to not let themselves be defined by their disabilities or limitations. Indeed, society has come a long way in altering our perception and definition of disabilities. Often the focus has been on not labeling people.
Yet in my work with children with learning disabilities such as ADHD and Dyslexia, I have found that what damages the children most is not the label, but the ways in which adults around them lower their expectations of what the child is capable of. Rather than seeing the massive potential inherent in the child, the adults in their lives begin to see the limitation as the central defining quality of who that child is and how they must be raised.
One of my favorite moments as a therapist is when I get to point out to a child (and a parent) what a remarkable masterpiece they are, and likewise, to show them the insignificance of the disability to their ultimate God designed identity.
