It’s not always easy to take care of your anxiety. You might think that everything is fine, and out of the blue something triggers you to the point that you’re crying the next minute, and you don’t even fully realize why. Anxiety can sometimes become a huge burden, and if not addressed, it can even lead to further health disorders, panic attacks and more.
To immediately deal with your anxiety as it arises, consider these three simple but powerful exercises suggested by preferred anxiety treatment Denver area clinicians:
- Breathe! It might seem straightforward and simple, but most people actually don’t know how to breathe properly. Shallow, fast and uneven breaths usually lead to even more anxiety, and if your breath constantly stops near the throat or the chest, then you’ll really be in trouble. Use deep breaths and abdominal breathing to address growing anxiety over any subject right away and take a little bit of control back.
- Craft your own affirmations. You might find a lot of affirmations and quotes online that people are using as their mantras. However, if nothing resonates with you, then simply use them for inspiration and craft your own affirmations – which should be meant to help you deal with your own unique issues, rather than just address a vague problem that you might not even have.
- Name your accomplishments. Much of our anxiety stems from the fact that we have a poor image of ourselves and we don’t believe we can deal with problems that seem scary. If you take the time to name (or preferably write down) your accomplishments each day, you’ll have better control of your anxiety, and you won’t feel as bad.
